Body-Mind Typology - Your Unique Nature

Ayurveda teaches that from birth, each individual inherits a unique proportion of the 5 great elements and the 3 Doshas. This unique constitution is known as your bio-typology or in Sanskrit, Prakriti.

This is a vital concept in Ayurveda as your Prakriti influences your emotional, mental, biological, and social tendencies throughout your life. Understanding your unique bio-typology will empower you to live a mindful and self-aware life that accentuates your strengths and supports your "weaknesses".

In accordance with your bio-typology, you may be “airy” by nature and have Vata as your dominant Dosha, you may be “fiery” with Pitta predominating, or “earthy” with Kapha as your most influential energy. Many people have two Doshas equally present in their nature, this is a dual-dosha type, (Vata-Pitta, Pitta-Kapha, Kapha-Vata), and rarely does a person truly have all Doshas equally in their constitution.

As helpful as a questionnaire can be, sometimes it can be difficult to be objective about ourselves. Establishing Prakriti requires clear observation and contemplation, and sometimes it’s best to work with a practitioner, especially if you have health concerns.

***It is likely you were directed here to complete this questionnaire as a part of an upcoming Ayurvedic consultation, if so please submit your results. If you have arrived here out of your own curiosity, feel free to use the information as a part of your own observations, submission is optional.

How to use this form

Under each observation, you will see 3 different descriptions related to the 3 Doshas. Select the option that most closely represents your personal nature. You do not need to relate to every word in the description to make a selection. If more than 1 description applies to you within the same subject then select both. If you’re unsure, ask a close friend or family member. When completing this questionnaire, think about your general state, not so much your symptomatic state, unless it feels like your symptoms have occurred the majority of your life. You might need to take some time to observe yourself and your reactions and come back later. You may also like to try it again in another season and compare your score.

When finished tally up each selection you have made according to the relevant dosha (V - Vata, P - Pitta, K - Kapha). There are 20 subjects of observation.
